Coffee Quality Control Technician

Equal Exchange is seeking a Quality Control Technician to help maintain current quality control procedures for our coffee program, including sorting coffee, roasting samples, preparing daily coffee cuppings, and other duties related to staff, team, and department meetings and communication with producer partners.

• Maintain and update systems for monitoring coffee samples.
• Sort green coffee samples and record results.
• Roast coffee samples for testing.
• Monitor roasted coffee.
• Prepare morning cuppings for QC staff and roasters, record and share results with the team.
• Break down and clean up after cuppings are completed.
• Participate in coffee cuppings.
• Measure and analyze packaging for EE coffee products and record results.
• Perform QC checks on the production line.
• Calibrate, maintain, and track machine maintenance.
• Perform production tasks as needed such as roasting, packing, paperwork, etc.
• Fill production positions during vacations, sick leave, etc.
• Create/maintain tools to communicate best practices for using our espresso.
• Support coworkers in understanding and using these tools.
• Train customer staff, including baristas, on best practices for creating espresso drinks.
• Occasional travel to train customer staff/baristas at their store/cafe (approximately six times per year).

• Ability to communicate well and problem solve.
• Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
• Ability to work alone and well with others/team.
• Comfortable with computers and technology (Excel, Word, databases, email).
• Detail oriented.
• Food Science background helpful.
• Food Service experience helpful.
• Coffee experience.
• Preferred:
  Coffee training experience.
• Preferred:
  Coffee roasting experience.
• Preferred:
  Coffee cupping experience.
• Preferred:
  Foreign language skills.
• Preferred:
  Ability to lift 50-75 lbs.

Worker-owner track employee $45,000 – $50,000 annual. Hours are variable. Department is Quality Control and reports to the Quality Control Manager. Other duties as assigned.
