The Body Shop Prepper is responsible for preparing vehicles and vehicle components for the paint process by performing sanding, masking, cleaning, and minor repair work. This position plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality paint finishes and maintaining productivity within the collision repair department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare repaired vehicle panels and parts for paint application.
Sand, feather-edge, prime, and block-sand surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
Mask and protect vehicles and surrounding areas from overspray.
Clean surfaces using approved solvents and cleaning agents.
Apply primers, sealers, and other preparatory materials as directed.
Assist painters with moving vehicles, parts, and materials throughout the shop.
Remove and reinstall minor trim, moldings, and hardware as needed.
Inspect repaired surfaces for imperfections and communicate concerns to technicians and management.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).Follow all manufacturer, dealership, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
Assist with detailing and final vehicle preparation when required.
Meet productivity and quality standards established by the Body Shop Manager.
Previous body shop, automotive refinishing, or collision repair experience preferred.
Knowledge of sanding, masking, and paint preparation techniques.
Ability to operate shop equipment safely and effectively.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Physical Requirements Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and walking.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull automotive parts and equipment.
Exposure to dust, chemicals, paint products, and shop noise while using appropriate safety equipment.
