Requisition

The Swiss CNC Operator-II performs all tasks, roles and responsibilities of the Swiss CNC Operator-I in addition to setting up and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines, including CNC Swiss style (sliding headstock) lathes, CNC lathes, CNC milling machines, etc. The role involves setting up simple to complex jobs to machine small diameter, close tolerance parts, including pointed parts; following standard operating procedures and instructions;

setting up and operating secondary equipment; and performing any other functions within the department that may be necessary.

• Review setup sheet & specs to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished workpiece.
• Load control media to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from database.
• Work from procedures & prescribed sequences to achieve parts per print and quality specifications.
• Attach fixtures and tooling to machine bed and position securely according to setup instructions, using clamps, bolts, hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments such as ruler and caliper.
• Ensure workpiece is properly lubricated and cooled; coolant lines properly located.
• Manipulate controls and enter commands to index cutting tool to specified set point.
• Monitor machine operation, detecting malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
• Troubleshoot problems and make minor adjustments to achieve quality output.
• Adjust tooling, machines, and/or part programs as needed.
• Engage supervisor or lead person if process or program requires adjustments beyond minor adjustments.
• Perform first piece & in-process inspections for self and peers as needed using appropriate measurement tools and methods.
• Record measurements per inspection plans and methods indicated.
• Monitor trends and adjust as required to maintain specifications and minimize variation.
• Communicate with co-workers, members of other shifts, technical leader, team leader, and/or supervisor to transfer and receive instructions and information.
• Assist with prove-outs and suggest improvements to processes that are unproven.
• Adjust machine feed and speed and change cutters to machine parts to specs; suggest improvements to existing methods of CNC machining operation.

• 3 to 5 years of experience in a small device manufacturing environment as a CNC machining operator/set-up operator.
• Experience operating Citizen, Star, or Tsugami CNC Swiss lathes desired, or other CNC turning centers or CNC equipment.
• Experience in medical device manufacturing, aerospace, machinery, and metals is desired.
• Must be able to read blueprints, drawings, specifications, and quality plans and have strong oral and written communication skills.
• Follow written and verbal instructions and be capable of meeting deadlines.
• Good manual dexterity and ability to use measurement and inspection tools.
• Good work habits, strong workmanship, and a positive attitude are required as well as an ability, desire, and flexibility to perform a variety of machining operations and other functions within manufacturing as needed.

High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduation from a vocational school in manufacturing/machining or engineering discipline is a plus.
