Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Learning and Engagement (DoLE) the Manager of Community and Family Programs (MoCFP) manages a variety of community engagement initiatives to serve our visitors and to build new audiences, with an emphasis on programming that models the power and relevance of art to meet individual and community needs. The MoCFP supervises the work of the Education Program Coordinator and undergraduate interns (when applicable).

Occasional weekend, holiday, and evening work is required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
  • Provide supervisory oversight and support for the Education Program Coordinator (and interns when applicable)
  • Under the direction of the DoLE, plan, organize and execute established and yet-realized community programs, on-site, off-site and digital (such as First Sundays Free, Start with Art, Summer Family Day, Interpretation Station, Art-to-Go, Clark Connects Web activities)
  • Oversee established and yet-realized community support programs (such as RAISE, Rx for Wellbeing, programming for people with disabilities), with a goal of expanding these programs and the Clark’s Art and Wellness initiatives (in collaboration with the Senior Manager of Gallery Education)
  • Working with the division team, and other departments at the Clark, develop strategies for promoting awareness and participation in our programs, especially focusing on new audience development
  • Consider and propose new programming innovations that demonstrate how engaging with art can be beneficial to individuals and community groups
  • Develop a deep knowledge of the Clark collection and a nimble sense of how the collection can relate to current interests, concerns and issues
  • Build relationships with community groups to share our mission and philosophy of art and nature engagement and explore how our programming may serve their needs and goals
  • Stay current with other museums’ activities as well as professional literature about best practices in museum education programming
  • Working with division colleagues, help to develop interpretive materials such as gallery games and self-guides designed to engage visitors with the collection for use in community programs
  • Manage event budgets and contracts for programs, hired entertainment and other outside workers
  • Execute ongoing evaluation (including observation, interview, survey and other methods of data collection) to improve our programs and expand our audience
  • Gather and organize program statistics, working with the Education Program Coordinator, disseminate statistics for reports as needed
  • Serve on staff committees as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Hiring Hourly Rate Range

$25.40-$28.00

Minimum Qualifications Education, Training, and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Arts education programming and/or museum studies background required.
  • Previous experience in program development and management required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
Work Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Physical Demands:
    • Ability to sit at a desk/workstation and use a computer for prolonged periods of time.
    • Ability to stand for up to four hours.
    • Ability to bend and reach.
    • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Work Environment:
    • Work will primarily be performed in an office environment and museum spaces.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
    • Occasional outdoor work required, weather permitting.
