Position Summary
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a compassionate, organized, and dedicated School Nurse to promote the health, safety, and well-being of students across the school community.
The School Nurse provides direct nursing care, responds to student illnesses and injuries, manages student health records, administers medications, and collaborates with families, faculty, and healthcare providers to support student success. The ideal candidate is committed to creating a healthy school environment while ensuring compliance with all state and federal health regulations.
Essential Responsibilities- Provide nursing assessment, first aid, and emergency care to students and staff as needed.
- Evaluate students presenting with illness or injury and determine appropriate treatment or follow-up care.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization and medical documentation.
- Review and verify student immunization records and ensure compliance with Massachusetts state requirements.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student illnesses, injuries, medical concerns, and emergency situations.
- Develop and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), and other health-related accommodations as appropriate.
- Promote health education and wellness initiatives for students, including topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
- Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, teachers, and outside healthcare providers to support student health and well-being.
- Monitor communicable illnesses and implement appropriate infection prevention and control procedures.
- Maintain inventory and organization of health office supplies and medical equipment.
- Participate in school safety planning, emergency preparedness, and other duties as assigned by school leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Massachusetts School Nurse Licensure (or eligibility for licensure) preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience; previous school nursing, pediatric, or community health experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, faculty, and healthcare providers.
- Knowledge of Massachusetts school health regulations and immunization requirements preferred.
