Pet Stylist – Responsible for providing professional grooming services to pets and ensuring exceptional care and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Under moderate to limited supervision, perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, following pet parent instructions and company policies.
- Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
- Prioritize pet well‑being and safety, monitor for discomfort or health issues, and report concerns promptly.
- Evaluate individual pet needs based on coat type, skin condition, and temperament.
- Interact professionally with pet parents, provide customer service, answer inquiries, offer grooming recommendations, and resolve concerns.
- Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance, at‑home care practices, and product recommendations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary grooming area; perform daily and weekly cleaning duties and sanitize tools per hygiene policies.
- Apply Petco grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure quality and consistency.
- Support or supervise entry‑level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader.

- Completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program or prior experience as a professional groomer, or completion of a technical grooming training program.
- High‑school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Independent judgment and problem‑solving ability in routine to moderately complex grooming situations.
- Commitment to productivity, performance, and ownership of the salon role.
- Attention to detail and high grooming standards.
- Passion for animals and desire to progress a grooming career.
- Extensive knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and behaviors.
- Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with pet parents and team members.
- Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with empathy.
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.
The majority of duties are performed indoors in the grooming salon. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for extended periods. Tasks may involve exposure to heights using a two‑step ladder or other tools. The work setting can be noisy and wet, and a large portion of the role involves direct contact with pet parents and their dogs.
SalaryRange
Hourly or salary: $15.00 - $23.00 (actual rate may vary by location and experience).
