Salary: $50,230.18 – $67,297.88 per year
Responsibilities- Supervise maintenance of assigned recreational areas, including grounds maintenance, building and equipment maintenance, and removal of hazardous trees or limbs.
- Inspect state‑operated forest and park recreational areas and facilities for suitability, compliance with safety standards, and maintenance needs.
- Patrol recreational areas and facilities to maintain security and enforce applicable rules, regulations, and policies.
- Check buildings daily.
- Issue permits or allow use of recreational facilities, park areas, etc., and collect related fees.
- Maintain records and prepare reports concerning assigned work to provide information and make appropriate recommendations.
- Assist in the organization and implementation of recreational and cultural programs for visitors.
- Coordinate activities and work of volunteers and other participants.
- Determine supply needs; operate and perform routine maintenance on various types of equipment and vehicles; provide information to the public; interview candidates; provide on‑job training; and use small hand tools.
- Monitor operation, administration, and maintenance of a major recreation area, including satellite grounds and multiple facilities; operate and oversee online revenue reporting and ORMS reservation systems.
- Represent the agency at meetings and conferences with federal, state, and municipal agencies and community groups to provide information on agency objectives and secure cooperation.
- Prepare budgets for assigned areas, projecting resource needs and preparing required budget request documentation.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Driver’s license.
- Ability to work outside in inclement weather, work odd hours, and work overtime and holidays as expected.
- At least two years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time technical or professional experience in forestry, parks, or recreational management; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and the following substitutions:
- Associate’s degree or higher with a major in forestry, natural resources management, or parks and recreation management may be substituted for the required experience. Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (based on assignment).
