Saturday availability required. Availability to assist in processing facility on processing days (usually Mon & Wed) a plus. Minimum Of 1 Season Commitment Preferred, March Through Mid-December. Experience appreciated, but not required.

$18-20+/hr (depending on experience and skills), on-the-job training, and increases based on reliability, performance, and skills gained. Overtime over 40hrs, poultry meat and eggs, and lunch provided periodically and during Turkeygeddon (1.5-2 weeks leading up to Thanksgiving).

Livestock Crew members assist in daily care of our livestock, which includes poultry (broilers, layers, and ducks) and sheep (Romeldale CVM), shell egg production and packing, and cleaning, sanitization, and maintenance of housing and production equipment.

• Humane treatment of livestock
• Handling and removal of deadstock
• Animal husbandry tasks:
  • Watering
  • Feeding
  • Bedding
• Crating livestock for moves and processing
• Egg production: gathering, washing, and packing eggs
• Cleaning and sanitization of equipment (waterers, feeders, etc)
• Observe and report on livestock health and behavior
• Recordkeeping on daily care logs
• Adherence to safety protocols
• Maintain clean, organized work & storage spaces

• Treat animals and fellow crew with utmost care, compassion, and respect, always
• Able to lift and carry 60lbs repeatedly
• Attention to detail
• Able and willing to working outside in all weather conditions

• Reliable transportation for commuting to farm for work and during work between two farm sites (Sunderland and Amherst, about 8 min apart)

Reed Farm is a family owned and operated, innovative, small-scale pastured (as season allows) poultry farm and on-farm state-inspected poultry processing facility in Western Massachusetts. We raise poultry for wholesale and provide the local farming community with custom poultry processing services. We are progressing towards a USDA Grant of Inspection (2026), after which we will be the sole USDA poultry processing facility in MA.
