Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Atomic Physics and Precision Measurements
A full‑time, 40‑hour per week, two‑year term position with the possibility of renewal for a third year is available in the Physics and Astronomy Department. The laboratory, led by Professor Tiku Majumder, focuses on high‑precision diode laser spectroscopy of heavy atoms to test contemporary atomic theory and fundamental physics.
ResponsibilitiesThe postdoctoral researcher will lead laboratory work in several areas, including experimental design and new apparatus construction, theoretical modeling, detailed data analysis, and dissemination of results through scientific talks, conference presentations, and peer‑reviewed publications. The scholar will also be encouraged to propose and develop new experimental ideas that serve as tests of cutting‑edge theoretical developments, both within and beyond atomic physics.
In addition, the fellow will engage with undergraduate students in the department, including senior honors research projects, the teaching laboratory, and the month‑long January teaching term.
- Doctoral degree in Physics or a closely related field.
- Strong background in experimental physics; experience in laser and atomic physics techniques is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with computing, modeling, data collection, signal processing, and data analysis tools standard in this field.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team that includes junior researchers.

Annual salary ranges from $55,000 to $62,000
