Position: Ocean Career: Research Assistant at the Marine Biological Laboratory
Location: Woods Hole

Genome Editing Core Facility Manager

The job entails knocking genes in and out of cephalopods in support of the Marine Biological Laboratory's Cephalopods Program and managing a genome editing core facility in the Marine Resource Center. Duties will include microinjection of embryos of the squid Euprymna berryi and other cephalopods with CRISPR-Cas9 to knock genes out, with plasmids to identify cephalopod promoter and enhancer elements, with mRNAs to trace cell lineages, and with transposases and meganucleases to create transgenic organisms, and genotyping organisms.

Duties will also include managing the equipment and reagent stocks for the genome editing core facility; training resident and visiting scientists on microinjection techniques; keeping careful records of facility and reagent usage; managing a sign-up system for equipment usage; and daily upkeep and management of the facility. The holder of this position will work between the Genome Editing Core Facility in the Marine Resource Center and the Rosenthal laboratory in the Rowe Building, under the supervision of Dr.

Rosenthal, and will need to work closely with the husbandry staff of the Cephalopods Program to coordinate production of embryos and care of post-hatchling organisms.

The successful candidate will be organized, and have experience working in a cell biology, neuroscience or molecular biology research lab. Candidates with experience microinjecting cells or embryos, or with genome editing using CRISPR-Cas9 or other methods are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants must have a BS degree in biology or an equivalent area.
