Position: Geologist/Hydrogeologist with Security Clearance
Location: Fort Devens

SUMMARY:

DAWSON, a Native Hawaiian Organization (NHO)-owned business, is seeking a Staff Geologist II (Geologist/Hydrogeologist) to support a variety of environmental consulting projects for federal clients, including the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Working under the guidance of senior project managers, this role involves gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological, chemical, and geochemical data in both the field and office settings.

The field activities will consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors, including laboratories, excavation, drilling, and/or remediation companies. This role is primarily for project support at Fort Devens; however, it could be requested to support other project locations. This position has the additional responsibility of acting on the Project Manager’s and/or Deputy Project Manager’s behalf on-site or when either is unavailable.

Applicants must currently be located or willing to relocate and continue to reside within a daily commute of Fort Devens. This position is ideal for career professionals seeking hands-on experience across diverse environmental disciplines in a fast-paced, mission-driven consulting environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Supervise and assist with all site activities (e.g., Fort Devens, MA). Duties may include site manager, site safety and health officer, lead geologist, sampler, or inspector.
* Responsible for daily field operation activities & service order needs being completed in contract-required timelines.
* Conducting environmental field work, including collecting soil, surface water, sediment, groundwater, and remediation system data; soil and rock logging; and fluid level gauging.
* Oversight of contractors conducting field surveys, drilling, well installation, well development, and remediation, and utility clearance for intrusive operations.
* Conduct monthly on-site system inspections and annual LUC inspections.
* Coordinates and oversees on-site subcontractors and vendors.
* Develops and maintains a high level of engagement and positive relationships with clients to build on current performance and develop new opportunities.
* Document field activities by maintaining accurate field notes, completing data forms, and assisting with photographic and GPS/GIS documentation.
* Assist in the preparation of technical reports and environmental documents, including data summaries, figures, tables, and draft sections of reports.
* Adhere to health and safety requirements, participating in safety briefings, following field safety procedures, and using appropriate PPE.
* Contribute to internal project organization, including file management, data entry, and maintaining project records in accordance with contract standards.
* Provide general support to multidisciplinary teams, demonstrating professionalism, reliability, and a willingness to learn and take on new tasks.
* Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor of Science degree in geology or relevant geological science discipline (e.g., geophysics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, environmental engineering, or environmental science).
* A minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in scientific, regulatory, environmental consulting, contract, or related industry. A master’s degree from an accredited university can be substituted for one year of professional experience.
* Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in managing drilling operations.
* Professional certification (e.g., PG, PE, CEP) is considered a plus, but not required.
* Strong organizational, writing, and communication skills.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and handle pressure.
* Must meet facility and Fort Devens security and access requirements.
* Ability to collect, analyze, and document environmental data, including field surveys, sampling, and site assessments.
