Position: Security Team Specialist I
Location: Tewksbury Junction

Overview

Tewksbury Hospital is seeking a Security Team Specialist I to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, residents, staff, and visitors. The role involves campus safety operations, behavioral de‑escalation, and emergency response support in a dynamic healthcare setting.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol hospital buildings, grounds, and surrounding areas to maintain safety and compliance with policies.
  • Monitor for and respond to safety concerns such as trespassing, theft, and potential harm, coordinating with local or state law enforcement when necessary.
  • Provide custodial supervision and escort patients, residents, and clients to appointments, admissions, discharges, and other campus locations.
  • Conduct searches for missing patients or property and assist with the return of absent patients (AWA).
  • Respond to medical, behavioral, and facility‐related emergencies, focusing on de‑escalation and ensuring safety for all.
  • Investigate incidents, gather information, interview involved parties, and prepare detailed written and electronic reports.
  • Perform visitor screening, security checks, and maintain access control in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Inspect buildings, grounds, fire lanes, and emergency exits to ensure safety standards and identify hazards.
  • Enforce traffic and parking regulations, direct traffic flow, assist pedestrians and disabled vehicles, and support campus transportation operations.
  • Operate security and communication equipment, maintain records and documentation, support hospital events and drills, and collaborate with hospital staff, police, and emergency personnel.
Minimum Entrance Requirements

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience in protecting and/or securing buildings, equipment, or individuals, or an equivalent combination of required experience and the following substitutions:

  • An associate’s degree or higher in a related field may substitute for experience.

Applicants to positions within the Department of Youth Services, Department of Mental Health, and Department of Public Health must hold valid certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and first aid. Those applying to the Department of Youth Services also require certification in crisis intervention and suicide prevention.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in healthcare, behavioral health, or human services environments.
Required Qualifications
  • Maintain calm and exercise sound judgment in emergency, stressful, or emotionally charged situations.
  • Interact effectively with individuals experiencing physical, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work respectfully with diverse populations.
  • Gather information through observation, interviews, and review of records or documentation.
  • Prepare clear, accurate written reports and maintain detailed records.
  • Follow, interpret, and enforce policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
Additional Requirements

Title 101 CMR 23.00 (“Regulation”) requires this position to be vaccinated against COVID‑19 and influenza, or to have taken required mitigation measures. Successful candidates must attest to their vaccination status for both diseases.

Salary

54,595.84 – 73,743.80 yearly (dependent on experience and education)
