Electrician/ Electrician Installation, Installation Technician
Location: Newton Center
Job Purpose
Responsible for enforcing the Massachusetts Electrical Code (based on the National Fire Protection Association National Electrical Code with state-specific amendments) to ensure the safety and compliance of electrical installations throughout the city. The electrical inspector performs inspections of residential and commercial properties, working closely with contractors, electricians, and other city departments to uphold public safety standards.
Responsibilities- Enforce compliance with Massachusetts Electrical Code and City of Newton regulations.
- Review electrical permit applications for completeness and issuance.
- Inspect electrical installations for new construction, alterations, and service upgrades as well as other electrical work. Conduct rough, final and re-inspections for compliance with code.
- Identify unsafe or non-compliant installations and require corrective action.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and reports in computer systems.
- Provide guidance to contractors, electricians, and residents regarding code requirements.
- Collaborate with other inspectors and city departments.

- Must possess a valid Massachusetts Master Electrician License. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in electrical construction. Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Massachusetts amendments.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as reports, electrical and fire plans.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals.
- Must be able to use a computer. Use and knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
