The Town of Halifax is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Wiring Inspector in the Building Department.

The Assistant Wiring Inspector will be responsible for conducting inspections as needed, enforcing all applicable laws, codes, and town by‑laws, and reviewing plans and permit applications. This position will have frequent contact with electricians, contractors, utility companies, and town employees and officials.

The Assistant Wiring Inspector must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as demonstrate the ability to interpret and enforce regulations with tact and impartiality. Basic computer skills and experience using online permitting and licensing applications is desired.

Advanced technical training in electrical trades code enforcement in addition to three to five years of experience with wire installations for light, heat, power, alarms, voltage, motor and controls, voice, data, communications, and signal systems is preferred. A valid Massachusetts Driver’s license is required. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must possess a journeyman’s or master electrician’s license, and be CORI certified (background check).

Pay rate: 65% of the permit fee. This is a part-time as-needed position and is not eligible for benefits.
