Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician

Job Summary

The Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light and advanced repairs, and advanced mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic diagnostics in a mobile field environment. The role requires advanced diagnostics, triage of complicated repairs, and leadership on jobsites as a consultant for customers and technicians. Successful technicians meet company policies and high performance metrics.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems, identifying malfunction causes using diagnostic instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to confirm proper operation after repairs.
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and apply sound judgment in diagnostic and repair decisions.
  • Manage parts inventory and equipment on company‑issued service trucks, performing periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicles, including safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
  • Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time efficiently.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift‑and‑jacks as required.
  • Document work in company standards, upload pictures and parts used on Repair Orders (“RO”) via the TRAIT application on an iOS device.
  • Complete DOT and other required documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work independently, managing daily schedule and productivity within or near standard repair times.
  • Source parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for repair estimates, purchase orders, and RO notes.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years of related experience. Candidates with alternative education or higher degree may be considered.
  • At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
  • Supply a set of hand tools necessary for the duties.
  • OEM training and certifications preferred.
  • Complete all company‑required training.
  • Support DOT regulations; successful completion of DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical before employment.
  • Valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining or a DOT physical if validity is ≤4 months.
  • Minimum age 21 due to interstate operation regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
