Overview

Mental Health Counselor – Seasonal Position

Pay range: $75 Per Hour.

Location:

The Town of Cohasset is seeking a part‑time summer program mental health counselor in the recreation department. Reporting to the Town’s Recreation Director, the Recreation Program Mental Health Counselor is a seasonal position available at our Cohasset Recreation Summer Playground campus located in Cohasset, MA.

2026 Summer Program Dates

Monday, June 29th through Friday, August 7
Session 1 June 29th through July 17th – Mon-Fri
Session 2 July 20th through August 7th – Mon-Fri
Orientation Mandatory – week of June 22nd

Responsibilities

Description of responsibilities:
Oversees the mental health and wellness of 400-500 campers each day (ages 4 to 14/ co-ed) and up to 100 staff members and volunteers. Communicates with parents/guardians concerning any issues and oversees any specific situations.

Qualifications

Required experience:

LICSW or LMHC. Experience with children and young adults is required, camp experience is preferred. Good character, integrity, and adaptability are necessary. The desire to work in a camp-like community is necessary.

  • 2 to 3 years of counseling experience working with children
  • Licensed as an Independent Clinical Social Worker or Mental Health Counselor in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Provide proof of current license and professional malpractice insurance
Required skills

The ability to provide guidance, supervision, and engage with children enthusiastically is required. Ability to assist campers with emotional dysregulation, assist counselors with managing more challenging interpersonal situations and overall help keep an emotionally stable atmosphere t be able to communicate with parents when necessary. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must.
