Position Title: Middle/High School Adjustment Counselor
Reports to: Building Principal – Quaboag Regional Middle/High School
Primary Function: The Middle/High School Adjustment Counselor supports students’ social, emotional, and behavioral well-being to promote academic success and personal growth. This role involves providing counseling services, crisis intervention, and collaboration with staff, families, and outside agencies to address students’ individual needs.
Qualifications- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
- Appropriate state licensure/certification (e.g., School Adjustment Counselor, School Social Worker)
- Experience working with children and adolescents in a school or clinical setting preferred
- Knowledge of child development, behavioral interventions, and mental health practices
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Counseling & Direct Student Supports
- Provide individual and small group counseling
- Support students dealing with:
Mental health concerns, Behavioral challenges, Social or peer issues - Coordinate reentry meetings for students in temporary outplacement
- Social-Emotional & Behavioral Interventions
- Collaborate with BCBA/RBTs
- Teach coping skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution
- Support all programmatic staff and students, including all QRMHS students
- Special Education & Student Support Teams
- Participate in IEP Meetings, 504 plan development, and Student Intervention Teams
- Provide counseling services outlined in IEPs
- Track progress and write reports on student outcomes
- Crisis Intervention & Risk Assessment
- Respond to crises such as suicidal ideation, behavioral escalations, trauma or family emergencies
- Conduct risk assessments and safety planning
- Help develop school crisis protocols
- Family & Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly with families
- Connect students to external mental health or social services when necessary
- Assist with mandated reporting and collaboration with outside providers
- Support families in addressing home-related challenges impacting school
- Prevention & School Climate
- Collaborate on bullying prevention, peer mediation, and substance use education
- Promote a positive and inclusive school climate
- Advocate for students’ well-being and equity
- Consult with staff regarding Social Emotional Learning
Salary: Per QEA Contract
