This position stems from a recent merger by the City of Sanford that will significantly expand our reach and influence in the industry. The UEOII will work with Pittsboro and Chatham County customers to perform the following duties:

Operating pickup or utility truck, dump truck, front-end loader, backhoe, and other motorized equipment in an assigned division; performing a variety of maintenance tasks.

Operates a variety of Category B equipment, and on a limited basis Category C equipment, in the performance of tasks for the division such as dump truck, front-end loader, backhoe, and similar motorized vehicles and small equipment.

Operates equipment within the street, around other ground utilities, in pedestrian traffic, and other tight places requiring care and skill.

Performs minor repairs and maintenance on assigned equipment; cleans and washes equipment on a periodic basis.

Sets up traffic control to ensure safety during workzone, special event, and emergency situations.

May train new employees on assigned equipment.

Operates equipment during snow removal and ice control.

Uses a variety of hand tools and equipment in performance of tasks, such as jackhammer, shovel, saw, etc.

Adheres to safety rules and regulations.

Performs related tasks as required.

We are looking for a detailed individual who possesses thorough knowledge in the operation, maintenance, capabilities and limitations of equipment used in area of assignment; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions involved in the operation of equipment; thorough knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; thorough knowledge of City and department policies and procedures; thorough knowledge in understanding various manuals associated with assigned equipment;
