Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – The successful candidate will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light and follow‑up repairs, mechanical/hydraulic/electrical diagnostics, and other responsibilities under the supervision of a senior technician. The role emphasizes independence, safety compliance, and consistent achievement of performance metrics.
Duties- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment across electrical, braking, cooling, air‑conditioning, clutch, differential, and other systems.
- Inspect, test, and analyze defective equipment using handheld computers, pressure gauges and other test instruments.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and confirm proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and use sound judgment to determine accurate solutions.
- Independently manage parts inventory, equipment on the company‑issued service truck, and perform periodic reconciliations.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work‑related activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards, uploading pictures of work performed, parts used and findings on Repair Orders (“RO”) via a company‑issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Operate independently, managing one’s daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity, working within or close to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA and DOT.
- Maintain the company issued service truck, conducting safety checks and daily pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field (or a higher degree or 5 years of experience).
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening, DOT physical or have a valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining.
- Be at least 21 years old in accordance with interstate operating authority regulations.
- Hold a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
