Job Responsibilities
Extension Educator – 4‑H Youth Development – Stark County
- Design, implementation and teaching of community-based programs that respond to local needs in the area of youth development. Implements current and designs new learning resources for 4‑H members, 4‑H volunteers, the school enrichment program in local schools and for partnership organizations in the county. Provide overall leadership for 4‑H Youth Development within the county.
- Participates in community collaborations focused on local needs and issues relating to youth development. Establishes and maintains partnerships within the community that support achievement of program goals. Leads and supports committees and volunteers that work to support the 4‑H program and related exhibitions. Communicates with clientele, peers and support teams.
- Conducts community assessment with county and state staff to identify educational needs and opportunities for the local community. Provides educational programs based on identified local needs. Participates in community functions to promote programs and public relations to county. Uses news media and develops promotion materials.
- Evaluates education programs and dissemination methods. Utilizes existing evaluation instruments to evaluate teaching effectiveness, program quality, and results.
- Engages in professional development in service and activities.
- Actively participates in discussions with county representatives and advisory committees concerning program funding. In coordination with office staff and may be responsible for the management of budgets within the program area and within the county office.
- Extension Educator 1: Requires a bachelor’s Degree. Salary Range: $42,100 – $55,000
- Extension Educator 2: Requires a master’s Degree. Salary Range: $47,700 – $62,300
- Extension Educator 3: Requires a master’s Degree and 11+ years of direct or related work experience. Salary Range: $55,700 – $72,700
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned bachelor’s or master’s degree at the time of hire is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in education, youth development or other educationally related area (Examples are Family Relations and Human Development, Communications, Recreation, Sociology, Psychology, and Education – including Agriculture, Extension, Elementary, Secondary, Family and Consumer Sciences and Physical Education).
Required ExperienceRelevant experience utilizing a variety of teaching methods to deliver program content to diverse groups of learners. Knowledge and/or the ability to learn concepts, processes, ideas, and methods relating to 4‑H and/or youth development in community settings. Experience or training in assessing, designing, developing and teaching educational programs to diverse audiences. Experience in building and maintaining relationships with various groups of individuals, including peers, support staff, volunteers, and local committees, in a effort to achieve common program goals.
Experience leading programs including the leadership of support staff and volunteers. Experience organizing, implementing and evaluating programs.
Volunteer administration experience as well as program development. Prior experience with budget management, as well as work with grants and contracts.
Strong written and oral communication skills and experience in working with diverse clientele and organizations are essential. Demonstrated success in working as part of a team and initiating collaborative partnerships is sought.
