Job DescriptionPosition: Academic Instructional Support (Massillon Middle School 4-8)
Reports to: Building Principal/Director of State-Federal Programs/Curriculum Director
Employment Status: Massillon Intermediate / Massillon Junior High School
Part time – $27/hr, 6 hours per day (M‑F), 178 days through the end of the 26‑27 school year, until filled.
Description: Provide instructional support services for students in grades 4‑8 in academics within the district, aligned with ESSA‑Title I and IDEA‑B programming, addressing learning loss, learning environment, and safety & security monitoring.
Essential Functions- Ensure student safety
- Assist students academically, including push‑in or pull‑out classroom services
- Provide supplemental tutoring to students in need (English learners, low‑income students, students with disabilities, racial & ethnic minorities, students experiencing homelessness, foster youth, and students with low academic achievement)
- Provide substitute instructional teaching services when learning loss occurs due to uncovered classrooms
- Monitor safety & security and patrol when assigned
- Tutor in assigned subject area and monitor student progress with pre‑ and post‑assessments
- Support students with disabilities by providing instructional, behavioral, and personal assistance that promotes academic success, independence, and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Effectively manage individual student behavior to maintain a positive learning environment
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to ensure appropriate skills are addressed
- Work with students individually and in small or large groups using varied instructional strategies and materials
- Tutor students during designated times and locations
- Reinforce concepts and facilitate varied activities enabling learning in different ways
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information (home and discipline situations, medical background, family history)
- Interact positively with staff, students, and parents
- Promote good public relations through personal appearance, attitude, and conversation
- Perform duties assigned by the Building Principal/Curriculum Director/Director of State and Federal Programs
- Attend professional development as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited institution of higher learning
- Appropriate certification/licensure
- Knowledge of subject matter with ability to provide clear, complete, and accurate explanations using a range of instructional techniques and media suitable for learners
- Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology
- Basic knowledge of all other subject matter
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Clear oral and written communication skills
- Active listening skills
- Organizational and problem‑solving skills
- Experience working with children
- Training in varied instructional methods
- Basic computer skills
- Excellent reading comprehension
- Computer / SMART Board
- Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Interaction among unruly children
- Repetitive hand motion (e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing)
