Core Responsibilities- Driving the Habilitative Mission
As the primary leader you will oversee all security and programming operations, ensuring facility protocols—such as Managing Youth Resistance (MYR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) models—are implemented effectively to balance safety with youth growth.
- Building a Supportive Culture
By walking the facility daily and maintaining open lines of communication with staff at all levels, you will build trust, mentor future leaders, and ensure every employee feels heard and valued.
- Strategic Resource Management
You will serve as the vital link between the facility and the DYS Central Office, managing the budget and procurement processes to strategically allocate resources for security and operational goals.
- Operational Excellence and Safety
Lead quality improvement processes, analyzing data and security trends, and maintain compliance with state regulations to keep a safe environment for public, staff, and youth.
- Empowering the Workforce
Lead the human resources efforts, ensuring a work environment defined by mutual respect, professional integrity, and equal employment opportunity.
Indian River is a cornerstone of the Ohio Department of Youth Services, recently reaccredited by ACA. As Superintendent you will have the platform to innovate, lead, and directly impact the future of juvenile justice in Ohio.

Completion of an undergraduate core program in business, public administration, or social science; or completion of a graduate core program in the same fields. - Professional
Experience:
5 years supervisory/management experience in juvenile or adult correctional facilities (or comparable settings) with 18 months training/experience in budgeting and 1 year training/experience in labor relations; or 4-year equivalent with same experience requirements. - Equivalent minimum class qualifications for employment, as noted above.
