SET-UP Mechanic off

Position Overview

The Set‑up Mechanic sets up and maintains blanker presses in operation and all associated equipment.

• Change, remove, dismantle, repair, assemble, install and adjust equipment (dies, punches, rolls, curlers, liner, conveyor, ovens, post‑coater spraying units, magazine, pumps, etc.).
• Set oven temperature and monitor equipment.
• Troubleshoot and correct problem areas.
• Perform preventive maintenance and lubricate as required.
• Keep machines loaded with stock and ensure presses run.
• Weigh compound on lid and verify.
• Check cans, lids and tab assembly for specifications (diameter, height, thickness, etc.) using instruments such as dial indicators, ring gauges, micrometers, pin gauges prior to production.
• Periodically recheck measurements during runs.
• Perform dimensional checks.
• Work from prints, specification sheets, written and verbal instructions.
• Assist Packer Operator in pulling defective product from line with hand jack or lift truck and relieve operator as needed.
• Complete required paperwork (production logs, QA checks, scrap weight logs, etc.).
• Perform all activity with safety as the number one concern.
• Perform general housekeeping and cleanup of assigned work areas.
• Adhere to all safety, quality and plant policies.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

• 3–5 years of prior work experience in a manufacturing environment, troubleshooting, repairing, diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and/or electrical equipment or machines.
• Mechanical ability required.
• Basic computer skills.

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
• Required to climb or balance; talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

• Primarily works in a plant environment; some duties may require work in an office setting.
• Exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic.
• Exposed to a wide range of temperatures.
• Noise levels frequently loud.
• Environment is tobacco‑free; use of tobacco or electronic cigarettes not permitted on Crown property.
