Position Overview

Tool & Die Makers are responsible for setting up and operating all types of machine tools to produce tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, component parts, and products to required print specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform operations including but not limited to turning, facing, threading, drilling, reaming, boring, tapping, milling, grinding, knurling, rolling, cutting, etc., on any material to exact tolerances and required micro-finish.
  • Design, machine, troubleshoot, and assemble special tooling into production dies.
  • Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of machine shop and tool room practices and techniques, properties of various materials, and the principles of application and operations of various types of tools, jigs, fixtures and dies.
  • Make repairs or alterations to end and can dies, including the manufacture of replacement parts as needed, including hardened tool steel and carbide parts.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to assemble, fit, align, and adjust parts to exact tolerances.
  • Check tooling inventories, set up tool packs, measure precision tolerances and work with assembly set‑ups.
  • Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Set‑up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and other equipment to machine parts.
  • Interact closely with the operations team to plan, troubleshoot and analyze production and equipment issues and concerns and come up with solutions.
  • Run quality checks on product in line with customer requirements.
Job Requirements
  • 3-5 years of prior experience with thorough knowledge of machine shop and toolroom practices and techniques.
  • Prior experience working with ferrous, non-ferrous, and non-metallic materials, cutting oils, grinding compounds and other process materials.
  • Proven competency in the use of micrometers, calipers, and related equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and parts specifications.
  • Proven experience running precision equipment as well as equipment re-build.
  • CNC Programming, OD/, and Jig Grinding experience.
Physical Requirements
