Position Summary

The Machinist Setup Technician (Level
3) is a skilled machining role responsible for performing setups, changeovers, and process adjustments on single or multi-spindle machines. This role focuses on executing established processes, maintaining part quality, and supporting stable production while developing toward full technical ownership. The Level 3 technician is a reliable shop floor contributor who works closely with senior technical staff and operations leadership to meet daily production goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Technical & Machining Execution
  • Perform setups and changeovers on single or multi-spindle machines, including tooling positioning and basic process setup
  • Operate one or more machines as needed to support daily production requirements
  • Make routine process adjustments during production to maintain part quality and dimensional conformance
  • Identify issues and escalate complex problems to Senior Technicians or the Manufacturing Engineer
  • Follow approved setup documentation, work instructions, and established standards
  • Support Senior Technicians in process improvement and optimization efforts
  • Assist with new part launches and changeovers under the direction of senior technical staff
  • Maintain part quality and dimensional consistency following completed setups
  • Perform tool changes and coordinate with the tool room for sharpening and replenishment
  • Ensure machines are stocked with bar stock and chips are cleared on a regular basis
  • Monitor and maintain proper coolant concentration and oil levels
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned machines and surrounding work areas (6S)
  • Conduct pre-shift and post-shift machine checks to identify issues before they impact production
Quality & Process Control
  • Read, interpret, and work to blueprints, customer specifications, and GD&T requirements
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, and gauges
  • Support first-piece approvals and document results accurately
  • Assist in root cause analysis when quality escapes, scrap, or rework issues occur
  • Communicate inspection results and quality concerns to the team lead or quality department
Process Development & Support
  • Support process improvement initiatives as directed by Senior Technicians or the Manufacturing Engineer
  • Maintain and update standard work documentation for assigned machines and setups
  • Actively develop skills in multiple machine operation, setup techniques, and multi-spindle process controls
  • Participate in cross-training to broaden technical knowledge across machine types and product families
  • Support kaizen events and continuous improvement initiatives on the shop floor
  • Promote and adhere to 6S standards in all assigned work areas
  • Identify and communicate ideas that improve safety, quality, delivery, or cost
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous learning
