Transport children safely to/from school and other approved destinations. Make sure wheelchairs, seat belts, car seats, and booster seats are installed correctly. Assist with students with special needs as necessary.
Essential Functions (Bus Driver)- Transport students for the assigned schools
- Properly check vehicle and report any deficiencies
- Maintain route information and associated paperwork
- Work with building principals to maintain student discipline
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) – proof required
- CLD with School Bus endorsement
- Current Bus Driver Certification
- Successful FBI & BCII background check in accordance with Board of Education Policy and the applicable ORC
Help children safely board the bus. Help special needs children into their seats. Make sure wheelchairs, seat belts, car seats, and booster seats are installed correctly. Assist with students with special needs.
Essential Functions (Bus Monitor)- Help maintain positive control over the students transported on the school bus
- Observe mandatory safety regulations for school buses
- Help maintain pupil control and report any violations to the proper authorities as prescribed
- Know students and have a general knowledge of their special needs
- Notify the supervisor in case of illness so as to permit time to secure a substitute driver
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, conversation, and the clean/orderly appearance of the school bus
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student medical records, etc.
- Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
- Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
- Attend meetings and in-services as required
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens
- Report all accidents and complete required reports
- Enforce applicable Board policies
- Attend bus driver meetings and be available in the event of emergency dismissal
- Conduct rear door emergency evacuation drills
- Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) – proof required
- A satisfactory Criminal Check
- Must hold a valid Ohio Teacher’s Aide Certificate
- Physical capability of safely and appropriately lifting and managing preschool and special needs children
- Ability to cope with stressful situations
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Effective, active listening skills
Organizational and problem solving skills
Ability to have full control with bus discipline at all times - Knowledge of basic first aid
- Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings and labels
- Ability to be patient and understanding
- Wheelchairs, child car and booster seat mechanisms, child restraint (harness)
- Frequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
- Frequent interaction among unruly children
- Occasional extensive sitting, up to 2 hours at a time
- Occasional requirement to stand and walk
- Frequent requirement to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, read, hear, and see (occasional color vision required)
- Occasional requirement to lift and carry up to a maximum of 65 pounds
- Occasional requirement to push and pull up to a maximum of 300 pounds (on wheels)
- Occasional overtime work will be requested and expected of the employee
