The Vehicle and Equipment Coordinator brings a proactive approach to fleet maintenance, including appropriate repairs and maintenance of a variety of park vehicles, equipment (mowers, attachments), and small and large tools. This position is responsible for determining appropriate lifecycle(s) of vehicles and equipment as well as participates in budgetary/financial needs for appropriate inventory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Diagnose the cause of various equipment, vehicle and motor malfunctions, and perform appropriate repairs in a timely manner.
- Responsible for determining what repairs can be safely performed internally versus using an appropriate vendor, taking into consideration time, safety, financial and warranty requirements.
- Monitors the progress of repair jobs, checking quality of worked performed and resolves issues with vendors and repair shops.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance (engine inspections, fluid levels, brake inspection, and tire conditions) and examine vehicles, equipment and various motors to ensure continuous operation and alleviate down time of equipment.
- Perform various diagnostic tests and uses reference materials such as service manuals and wiring schematics to determine operational difficulties, drivability problems and evaluate performance efficiency.
- Repair and replace major components including various brake systems, carburetor, power assist units, steering, diesel engines, and hydraulic systems.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a variety of different mechanical issues that may arise not related to vehicles-including but not limited to small and large engines, ATV's, chainsaws, tractors, mowers, boat motors, etc.
- Responsible for fleet maintenance and management including appropriately determining lifecycle of vehicles and equipment.
- Responsible for negotiating proposals with vehicle and equipment dealers and subsequently gaining approval from Maintenance and Construction Manager.
- With input from Department heads concerning fleet needs, responsible for creating fleet expense and capital budgets, to submit for approval to Maintenance and Construction Manager. Effectively navigates the purchase order and state bidding process for any purchases, as needed.
- Ensure effective scheduling, coordination, and completion of vehicle, motor, and equipment maintenance for the Stark County Park District.
- Ensures operators of vehicles, equipment and various attachments understand the use and proper care required through use and maintenance.
- Works closely with vendors to ensure pickup or delivery of necessary tools and parts needed to complete the various jobs/repairs that arise.
- Maintain a clean and safe shop environment as well as maintain clear and accurate records of parts, repairs, maintenance and tool inventory.
- Supervises Maintenance and Construction Department parking lot enabling efficient and adequate parking for employees and park vehicles, as well as keeping parking lot free from trash and clutter.
- As needed acts as a receiving agent unloading shipments arriving in trucks by operating forklift/skid steer.
- Conducts audits of fleet vehicles to ensure vehicles are being operated safely, efficiently as well as being responsible to manage appearance of park vehicles (cleanliness)
- As needed, acts as a field maintenance position performing tasks such as truck driving, equipment operator, lawn mower, and other landscape equipment including a chain saw.
