19 hours per week - schedules will include some nights and weekends

Position SummaryThe Part‑time Children’s Library Assistant delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value‑added experiences for all customers and performs routine tasks in support of the library. This position works primarily in the children’s department in a busy library location. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is one of America’s leading urban public libraries, serving a community of approximately one million citizens in the city of Charlotte and the surrounding towns.

- Promote the library’s collection and services
- Perform circulation activities
- Provide service desk coverage
- Provide materials to appropriate bins for transfer
- Provide research assistance to customers
- Utilize integrated library systems software
- Assist customers at several service points, primarily in the children’s department
- Train and assist customers on library policies, procedures, and processes
- Assist librarians to deliver programming and outreach services
- Assist with volunteer management
Perform shelving and weeding duties
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience, including library or retail
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Combination of relevant education and experience accepted
- Knowledge of integrated library systems software
- Experience working with children ages 0‑11
- Bilingual

- Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
Works in an office setting with moderate noise.
