Covenant Day School is seeking a long-term middle and high school band substitute teacher to teach our 6th – 8th grade band students as well as our 9th – 12th grade band students from approximately September through November 2026. The substitute is committed to fulfilling our mission within our community of students and families while serving as part of the fine arts faculty team.

Reporting to the fine arts director, this role is temporary and salaried (exempt).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Duties Include:

  • Teach band courses as assigned, selecting instructional resources based on class and individual student needs and in collaboration with other faculty.
  • Regularly incorporate biblical integration and worldview naturally into teaching content.
  • Use various technologies to support classroom learning.
  • Deliver lesson plans and communicate learning goals for various activities.
  • Prepare classroom and other materials for activities.
  • Observe student progress and assist them in preparation for various musical performances.
  • Manage and guide student behavior; provide feedback to students on their work and progress and encouraging them in their efforts.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student needs and progress.
  • Have an attitude of Christian service and modeling Christian principles and behavior to students and colleagues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the fine arts director.

Qualifications

  • Committed follower of Jesus Christ reflecting a desire to serve Him and others in work and life.
  • Eager to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience, patience, courage, and Christian discipleship.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred; teaching experience or experience directing band is highly desirable.
  • An understanding of teaching with biblical worldview and integration.
  • Positive attitude and a genuine love for and ability to connect with middle and high school youth.
  • Passion for learning, strong classroom management skills, and a willingness to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and faculty/staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve with initiative and pro-active approaches.
  • Computer skills as applicable for effective teaching.
