DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The basic functions of the Apprentice Plumber are to:

  • Assist the Plumber on the job site.
  • Loading the truck with tools and/or materials.
  • Assist with inventory of truck supplies and job site material inventory.
  • Help care for company property (i.e., trucks, tools, equipment).
  • Keep work area neat and clean.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction/instructions from management.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Apprentice reports directly to the Foreman or Superintendent for job related direction.

REQUIREMENTS Education
  • Required:

    Some high school.
  • Preferred:
    High School Diploma or GED.
Experience
  • Required:

    None.
  • Preferred:
    High School diploma or GED and a minimum of 6 months plumbing or general construction experience.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Licenses
  • Required:

    Good communication skills, willingness to learn, ability to lift 50 pounds, OSHA 1 0 Certification (or within 90 days from date of hire).
  • Preferred:
    Same as above but with working knowledge of plumbing.
Physical
  • Body position:
    Must be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, squat, sit, stand, climb stairs and ladders for long periods.
  • Body movements:
    Must be able to negotiate around crowded construction sites in varying weather, lift and move up to 50 pounds, use both hands for repetitive actions requiring simple to firm grasp.
  • Body senses:
    Must have the ability to use all senses in order to perform daily tasks and interact with others.
  • Mental:
    Requires good interpersonal skills and accuracy in performing duties. Must read, write and speak English, ability to accurately measure, be alert and cautious, work as part of a team.
  • Working conditions:

    Primary workstation on the job site, not environmentally controlled, work in varied outdoor weather conditions, heat, cold, rain, snow, dimly lit indoor conditions, noise levels may warrant hearing protection, exposure to toxic gases and/or solvents, may require working close to machinery; eight or more hour workdays per five or six day workweek with possibility of nights and/or weekends.
