Position

Summary

The Commercial Journeyman Plumber is responsible for assembling, installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining commercial plumbing systems in accordance with project specifications, company standards, and applicable plumbing codes (IPC). This role works independently and collaboratively with project teams to install water, drainage, gas, and specialty piping systems while ensuring quality workmanship, safety compliance, and project schedule adherence. The Journeyman Plumber also provides leadership and guidance to apprentices and helpers and maintains tools and materials.

They contribute to a safe, clean, and productive job site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble, install, and pressure test piping systems, fittings, valves, fixtures, and equipment for heating, water, drainage, and sprinkler systems in accordance with IPC codes and project specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and construction documents to determine plumbing system layouts and installation requirements.
  • Locate, measure, and mark positions for pipe connections, fixtures, supports, and equipment installation.
  • Install and connect plumbing fixtures and equipment including sinks, lavatories, commodes, water heaters, boilers, water softeners, and related trim components.
  • Install pipe supports, hangers, sleeves, and other system components to ensure proper operation and code compliance.
  • Plan and execute plumbing installations while coordinating with foremen, supervisors, and other trades to meet project schedules and quality standards.
  • Perform pressure testing, leak testing, and system inspections to verify proper installation and functionality.
  • Troubleshoot plumbing issues and determine causes of system deficiencies based on work orders, inspections, or project requirements.
  • Identify required repairs and corrective actions for plumbing systems, building infrastructure, and related equipment.
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and free of safety hazards throughout all phases of construction.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely and efficiently according to company policies and established procedures.
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations, including proper lifting, climbing, ladder use, and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to apprentices and less experienced team members.
  • Communicate effectively with project leadership regarding progress, challenges, material needs, and jobsite conditions.
  • Participate in inspections and quality control procedures to ensure installations meet company standards, customer expectations, and code requirements.
Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 4 years of commercial plumbing experience
  • Driver's License
  • Must be able to lift or carry 50 lbs.

PREFERRED:

  • Journeyman Card or NC or SC Plumbing license
  • Osha 30
Compensation

Wage: $25.00+ per hour based on experience, qualifications, and skills demonstrated.
