Job Scope

The Community Service Officer is organized and operates out of the Administrative Division. This position has no budgetary or supervisory responsibilities and is a non-exempt part-time position.

• Enforces Parking Ordinances
• Issues parking tickets and parking ticket warnings
• Reports any order maintenance concerns or suspicious activities
• Catches, secures, and transports contained animals, including dogs, as directed, in coordination with Animal Control or appropriate city departments
• Monitors and enforces Permit Parking on all city lots
• Transports (drives) department vehicles and equipment for service calls, repair, and maintenance
• Assists with vehicle maintenance and weekly cleaning of fleet vehicles
• Collects and delivers city correspondence, mail, special or time‑sensitive packages
• Performs other administrative duties, errands, city purchases, or other related services as directed by the Administrative Sergeant

• Successful completion of background and drug testing
• Valid Illinois Driver’s License

• Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required
• Some typing/word processing skills required
• Must have regular attendance (business necessity)
• Ability to communicate effectively and resolve minor parking disputes
• Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, and punctuation
• Ability to reach shelves up to 8’ ft. with the use of a step ladder
• Ability to lift containers, equipment, and files weighing 25 lbs
• Ability to safely handle and transport stray or loose animals using approved equipment and procedures
