Overview

Provide academic counseling including course and program advisement assistance with college admission and registration processes transfer advisement career decision-making success strategies and referral to campus and community resources. Coordinate assigned area(s) of responsibility.

Responsibilities
  • Provide academic advisement for new readmitting and assigned continuing students including students on academic probation.
  • Assist students with addressing challenges that are impacting academic success.
  • Assist students with career/major decision-making.
  • Refer students to campus and community resources.
  • Conduct new student orientation.
  • Be a Lake Land College resource for the community and prospective students.
  • Act as a curriculum resource for assigned curricula and maintain close working relationships with faculty in assigned divisions.
  • Maintain communication with assigned colleges and universities regarding transfer processes and requirements.
  • Conduct/coordinate assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Train for and teach Strategies for Success courses as assigned.
  • Assist in data collection and program assessment.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements

    Education Requirements:

    • Master's degree in guidance and counseling or college student personnel services.

    Experience Requirements:

    • Prefer community college counseling experience.

    Knowledge:

    • Knowledge of educational planning, career guidance resources, counseling methodology, and college student personnel services.

    Skills:

    • Ability to work with a diverse population of students and staff; excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills.

    Personal Requirements:

    • Strong sense of commitment to the community college philosophy and the continuous process of career and life planning; ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings.
