The AUSL Teacher Residency Resident Teacher position is a one-year training position that provides a training stipend, financial aid, and reduced tuition cost to become a full-time teacher. This position is for career changers that are looking for an accessible opportunity to become a full-time teacher.
About the AUSL Teacher ResidencyThe AUSL Teacher Residency is a nationally recognized, one-year teacher preparation program that helps career changers and recent graduates become highly effective teachers in North Chicago, Round Lake, Waukegan, and Chicago Public Schools. Since 2003, AUSL Teacher Residency has prepared 1,549 resident teachers through a proven cohort model, graduate-level coursework, and in-classroom experience alongside mentor teachers.

- You will then be qualified to work in a classroom as a full-time teacher and commit to working in an underserved school for four years after graduation
- Bachelor’s Degree at the start of the program Preferred
- GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
- U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident
- AUSL provides resident teachers with a $22,100 resident teacher scholarship that is paid directly to you. You can choose to use this living allowance to pay for tuition costs or to cover living costs you will incur throughout your training year.
- Additional grants such as the TEACH Grant, MTI Scholarship, and Segal Award are available to reduce your program cost
- Resident teachers may qualify for partial tuition cost forgiveness through FAFSA Loan Forgiveness depending on your chosen content area
