The Aspen Drive Library is abuzz with enthusiastic middle school students after school, and we are looking for the right person to help us meet their needs with excitement, empathy, and creativity. As part of the after-school team, you will work directly with youth in grades 5-8 by creating an engaging and welcoming tone in the library. You will guide students toward appropriate behavior, develop and present simple activities, and generally facilitate a good library experience for the students.

During school breaks, you will focus on assisting with more structured programs. Must be service-oriented, enthusiastic and energetic, and enjoy meeting the unique needs of tweens and teens.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Welcomes and engages with students in grades 5-8 including learning their names and explaining expected library behavior
  • Monitors after-school spaces at Aspen Drive Library, guiding students toward appropriate behavior.
  • Engages with youth individually and in small groups with flexibility, understanding, and a sense of humor.
  • Works as part of the after-school team to create a welcoming environment for all patrons during after-school hours.
  • Assists students in the use of school-related technology, including Google Suite, Apple products and applications, Chromebooks, and library databases.
  • Coordinates simple after-school activities for a diverse group of students in grades 5-8 and assists with more structured programs for this same age group during vacation periods.
Requirements:
  • One year experience working directly with youth ages 10-17 in school, library, or camp setting.
  • High School diploma, some college preferred.
  • Must be able to work required hours
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
  • Familiar with Google Suite, Microsoft 365 Suite, Apple products and applications, and Chromebooks.

Hours
  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 1:45-5:15
  • Wednesdays from 1:30-5:00
