Position OverviewThe Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for developing and executing supplier quality strategies to ensure the delivery of high-quality materials, components, and services. This role manages supplier qualification, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives across the supply base. You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Sourcing, and Operations to resolve quality issues, support new product introductions, and drive compliance with regulatory and sustainability requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement supplier quality initiatives aligned with business and growth objectives
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers to meet quality, reliability, and compliance standards
- Lead supplier audits, manage corrective actions, and monitor supplier performance
- Partner with Engineering, Sourcing, and Operations on new product introductions and supplier quality issues
- Analyze quality data, perform root cause analysis, and drive defect reduction initiatives
- Maintain supplier quality documentation, including audit reports, scorecards, and compliance records
- Drive supplier development, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement efforts
- Support sustainability and regulatory compliance initiatives within the supply base
- Facilitate cross-functional communication and training on supplier quality practices
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence
- Work with Sourcing to rate, qualify, and disqualify suppliers
- Improve supplier on-time delivery and reduce reject rates
- Minimize supplier-caused scrap and rework costs
- Manage First Article Inspection (FAI) processes for new parts and suppliers
- Serve as liaison between Quality, Engineering, and suppliers
- Advocate for suppliers when specifications are unclear or unrealistic
- Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities with suppliers
- Support Lean and Six Sigma initiatives to improve yields and reduce variability
- Partner with Engineering during Design for Manufacturability (DFM) phases
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field
- 5+ years of supplier quality, quality engineering, or supply chain experience in manufacturing
- Hands-on production or manufacturing environment experience
- Strong background in supplier qualification, audits, and corrective actions
- Knowledge of quality systems and performance tracking methods
- Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills
Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office
- Experience in low-volume, high-mix manufacturing
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards
- Experience with AS400 or similar ERP systems
- Background in machining, metal fabrication, or MRO components
- Exposure to Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools
