Seeking a highly skilled Lead UPS Field Engineer to join a dynamic team providing critical power solutions in the Chicago area. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and hands‑on field work to ensure mission‑critical systems stay online for clients across industries.
About the Role:As the Lead UPS Field Engineer, you will oversee field service operations, provide expert‑level technical support, and mentor a team of engineers. You’ll work on a variety of critical power systems including uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), Power Distribution Units (PDUs), bypass cabinets, and battery systems. Your mission: deliver top‑tier service, minimize downtime, and maintain high customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, train, and mentor a team of field engineers, ensuring consistent, high‑quality service delivery
- Plan, coordinate, and execute preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and system upgrades on UPS systems and related equipment
- Troubleshoot complex critical power systems to identify root causes and implement effective solutions
- Oversee installations, battery replacements, and commissioning of critical power equipment
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, company standards, and OEM guidelines
- Communicate effectively with clients, providing education on system operation and recommendations for improvements
- Maintain accurate service records, reports, and documentation for all field activities
- Collaborate with sales and project teams to support customer needs and technical solutions
- 5+ years of field service experience with UPS or critical power systems
- Proven leadership experience in a field service or technical team environment
- Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude with the ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Experience with multiple UPS brands and familiarity with factory service training preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain high‑voltage systems safely
- Excellent problem‑solving, organizational, and time‑management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self‑motivated, with the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks
- Valid driver’s license
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
- Experience in diverse environments: data centers, hospitals, manufacturing facilities, utility substations
- Hands‑on experience with battery handling, installation, and disposal procedures
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance best practices and zero‑defect service culture
