Overview
Controller (CPA, NFP) up to $160K (Chicago/Hybrid)
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid – 2 days onsite weekly)
About the RoleA well‑established organization is seeking an experienced finance and accounting leader to oversee core accounting operations and support modernization efforts across systems, reporting, and financial processes. This role is well‑suited for someone who has led controllership functions, enjoys improving workflows, and thrives in a stable environment that is investing in operational upgrades.
You will partner closely with leadership to enhance accuracy, transparency, and efficiency across financial reporting, internal controls, and technology. The position offers substantial ownership and the opportunity to influence both day‑to‑day operations and long‑term improvements.
Key Responsibilities- Lead monthly and annual close activities and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting
- Oversee high‑volume Accounts Payable processes, controls, and workflow improvements
- Maintain and enhance general ledger structure, reconciliations, and accounting policy documentation
- Support or lead major system implementations and ERP optimization initiatives
- Develop financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and analytical insights for leadership
- Strengthen internal control frameworks and ensure audit readiness
- Manage and mentor team members, fostering accountability and continuous improvement
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
- CPA or MBA required
- 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including controllership scope
- 5+ years of people leadership experience
- Experience leading high‑volume AP operations
- ERP implementation or major systems‑upgrade experience
Preferred
- Experience guiding established teams through process or systems modernization
- Exposure to financial reporting for executives or governing bodies
- PTO: 15 days vacation (increases to 18 days after 3 years)
- 5 days paid leave
