Position: Mental Health Technician, New Choice Addiction Recovery
Responsibilities

The New Choice Center for Addiction Recovery offers a 28-day, intensive, individualized hospital program for addiction treatment and detoxification. Medical detoxification is supervised by our professional staff to help manage the acute physical symptoms of substance withdrawal in a secure environment.

Participants engage in individual and family sessions with case management, along with direct consultations with our team of addiction specialists. JOB SUMMARY:
Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Assists in managing the unit under the leadership of the Program Coordinator and Director of Social Services. Implements programming for individuals and groups of patients. Shares responsibility for understanding verbal and non-verbal communications among staff and patients. Acts as a role model, including therapeutic use of authority, confrontation, limit setting, and emotional support.

Also responsible for all documentation related to the New Choice program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and provides patient care aligned with the policies, philosophy, and objectives of the New Choice Department and the hospital.
  • Implements interventions appropriate to the developmental needs of the patient, demonstrating sound clinical and professional judgment in accordance with the treatment plan.
  • Monitors the unit milieu and maintains a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, family members, and staff.
  • Accurately documents interventions using goals from the care plan, master treatment plan, and revisions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of various substance abuse and mental health commitments and their impact on patient treatment.
  • Shows understanding of the 12-Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
  • Conducts and documents patient observations every 30 minutes, as required by all shifts.
  • Provides counseling to patients/residents as needed per their treatment plan.
  • Qualifications

    Education:
    Current CADC certification required;
    Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field preferred.

    Experience:
    Minimum of one year of experience in chemical dependency, education, and group facilitation preferred.
