This role serves as the organization’s principal expert and point of contact for all Workday Payroll and Time/Attendance matters, while also leading and developing the HR Systems team (including the Senior HR Systems Analyst).

The ideal candidate will possess deep, hands-on technical expertise in Workday Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking, experience with iCIMS (or other ATS integrations), and a proven ability to deliver system implementations, upgrades, and integrations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic & Hands-On System Ownership:
Serve as the principal owner, subject matter expert, and primary hands-on configurator for Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, and Absence modules, including retro processing, accruals, eligibility rules, and complex business processes.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all Workday Payroll, Time, and Attendance configuration, troubleshooting, and escalations.
  • Lead and develop the HR Systems team, including direct supervision of the Senior HR Systems Analyst, modeling best practices as a “player-coach.”
  • Develop and execute a multi-year HR systems roadmap aligned with organizational goals and HR strategy.
  • Oversee system governance, security, and compliance, ensuring appropriate access controls and audit processes.
System Optimization & Project Management
  • Personally configure and optimize Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, Absence, and related modules to support business requirements.
  • Lead and participate in new module implementations, integrations (e.g., iCIMS, payroll, benefits providers, background check providers, talent assessment tools), and system upgrades.
  • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with external consultants for major projects.
  • Oversee the design and deployment of Workday reports, dashboards, and analytics for HR and business leaders.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement new HR technologies (including AI tools) as core components of the HR systems platform.
Process Improvement & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Partner with HR, IT, Finance and other business leaders to identify opportunities for process automation, data quality improvement, and system enhancements.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in requirements gathering, solution design, testing, and change management for HR technology initiatives.
  • Ensure delivery of end-user training, documentation, and support for HR systems.
  • Demonstrate success in communicating technical requirements and solutions clearly to non-technical stakeholders, and coach team members to do the same.
Data Integrity & Compliance
  • Oversee regular audits to ensure data accuracy, privacy, and compliance with company policies and legal regulations.
  • Stay current on Workday releases, industry trends, and best practices; recommend adoption of new features and technologies.
Troubleshooting & Support
  • Serve as the escalation point and hands-on resolver for complex system issues, collaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendors as needed.
  • Ensure timely resolution of HR systems-related tickets and requests.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in HR systems management, with at least 5 years of hands-on Workday HCM experience, including expert-level configuration of Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking modules (e.g., retro processing, accruals, eligibility rules).
  • Demonstrated experience leading HRIS teams and managing direct reports in a “player-coach” capacity.
  • Experience with Workday Recruiting, iCIMS, and other HR technologies strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale HR system implementations, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in communicating technical requirements and solutions to non-technical stakeholders, and coaching others to do the same.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Commitment to data integrity, confidentiality, and continuous improvement.
