ResponsibilitiesWe are looking to add a Senior Data Developer to our ongoing development, maintenance, and data engineering team. CFTC Market Data Operations (MDO) is responsible for the oversight, quality assurance, and analytical support of electronic market data received across the Commission. MDO's work includes developing data visualization tools, prototyping conceptual data models, producing specialized analytics, and advising on how to leverage the Commission's regulatory data effectively.
The qualified individual must be local to the Chicago area, as the role requires onsite collaboration with the MDO operations team.
The Senior Data Developer will serve as a technical advisor to the customer and a trusted liaison between MDO, program leadership, and Peraton. This individual will take ownership of the current manual data quality review work while leading an initiative to automate key quality checks and streamline the daily operational workflow.
What You Will Do:
- Serve in a technical lead role, overseeing the work of three data operations specialists
- Perform routine daily data checks and lead the design and automation of data quality and validation processes
- Communicate with exchange personnel to request incomplete or corrected submissions and ensure discrepancies are resolved
- Ensure reporting entities submit accurate and complete position data; coordinate corrective actions where necessary
- Monitor daily exchange reporting feeds, including permanent record and clearing member data
- Analyze futures, options, and other derivatives data by reviewing exchange, FCM, and trader reports; resolve reporting issues or irregularities
- Review and process submitted forms for unidentified accounts
- Enter and validate data in the Integrated Surveillance System (ISS) and Trader Linking Tool (TLT), ensuring proper association with correct traders
- Troubleshoot and resolve data issues relating to the weekly Commitment of Traders (COT) publication
- Conduct data reviews to ensure submitted files are complete and consistent with source reporting
- Monitor timeliness, accuracy, and error rates for all market participant submissions
- Review and analyze firm position, ownership, and control data
- Perform compliance related analysis of futures, options, and market data for completeness, consistency, and quality
- Review and validate data published on Commission reports
- Conduct detailed quality analysis of transactional, position, ownership, and control data
- Respond to data inquiries from internal CFTC divisions and external stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
- 8 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 12 years with a HS Diploma
- Working knowledge of derivatives markets including futures, options, and related instruments
- Experience developing automation and operational workflows in an AWS environment
- Hands on experience with Python development, scripting, and reporting tools
- Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, including SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
- Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
- Experience with SAS
- Proficiency with Excel, Power Pivot, Share Point
- Experience with Markit, Stata, or SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) is a plus
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the required CFTC agency clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Public Trust clearance
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, computer science, statistics, or a related field with 5 years of experience
- Master's degree is a plus
$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
