Position Overview
Airoom, Chicagoland’s premier design/build firm, is seeking a highly experienced Director of Procurement and Estimating to lead the Purchasing Department, manage material takeoffs, vendor negotiations, and cross‑department communication. The role is full‑time, permanent and based in Lincolnwood, IL.
Responsibilities- Manage and train Purchasing Department staff.
- Coordinate purchasing activities, issue purchase orders, and handle change orders.
- Negotiate with vendors and subcontractors; maintain purchasing database.
- Prepare cost estimates, track budgets, and generate weekly production reports.
- Implement and maintain take‑off and purchasing standards and P&L responsibility.
- Collaborate with sales, architecture, project, and operations managers.
- Coordinate inventory management and customer service within the department.
- Lead departmental strategies for cost management and integration with the design/build process.
- Minimum 5 years of management experience with hiring, training and supervising staff in a service organization.
- Broad knowledge of the construction industry across multiple disciplines and processes.
- Experience with estimating software, scheduling tools and CRM systems.
- Proficiency in vendor management, negotiation, pricing, logistics, and warranty support.
- Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and report progress to senior management.
- Knowledge of construction standards, building techniques, and compliance with safety codes.
- Experience coordinating with designs, estimating, and production for projects up to 5 per week.
- Background check required.
- Residential construction experience: 5+ years (required).
- Managing team experience: 5+ years (required).
- Preferred:
Architectural or civil engineering degree. - Preferred:
Illinois Registered Architect license. - Experience with CAD, drafting, coop advertising agreements, and material takeoffs.
- Competitive salary: $110,000 - $120,000 annually.
