General PurposeThe Retail Associate ensures that customers have a positive shopping experience by greeting them, providing assistance, maintaining a clean and organized store, and supporting company brand standards. The Associate is expected to perform a range of duties across all store areas and may be asked to take on additional tasks to meet customer service and operational goals.
Essential Functions- Maintain safety as the top priority, practicing safe behaviors and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Keep the sales floor clear and secure, ensuring easy egress to emergency exits.
- Treat all customers and associates with respect and courtesy; greet customers with eye contact, a smile, and a friendly hello.
- Assist customers at the register and in merchandise areas, answering questions and providing product knowledge.
- Respond promptly to customer service calls and resolve customer issues courteously, involving store leadership when necessary.
- Represent and support Ross’s brand at all times.
- Clean the store, including sweeping, mopping, dusting counters and mirrors, wiping high‑touch areas, and replenishing restroom supplies.
- Appear professional and adhere to the company dress code.
- Perform daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and well‑merchandised.
- Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor per company best practices and monthly presentation guidelines.
- Understand loss prevention, Shortage Highway, and protecting merchandise.
- Guard confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise with integrity.
- Follow Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock policies, properly process items, and notify store leadership for approvals.
- Handle cash, check, charge card, refunds, voids, and offline processes with accuracy.

- Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative, and pleasant manner.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
- Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
- Stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of working time.
- Bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.
- Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds.
- Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
- Other assignments may require different qualifications and skills.
- Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 20 pounds.
