Journeyman Electrician
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Journeyman Electrician to join a growing commercial and industrial electrical team. In this role, you install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems in commercial buildings, manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and industrial environments. You apply a strong understanding of electrical codes and safety regulations while leading projects, mentoring less experienced electricians, and ensuring all work meets high quality and safety standards.
You will work extensively with electrical distribution systems, motor controls, industrial automation equipment, and complex troubleshooting tasks.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems in commercial buildings, manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and industrial environments.
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment such as motors, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), switch gear, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Install, bend, and run conduit systems, including rigid and flexible conduit, and complete conduit bending for new and existing installations.
- Pull feeders and branch circuits, terminate conductors, and complete panel wiring and electrical installations with minimal supervision.
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, single-line diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings to plan and execute installations and repairs.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Troubleshoot circuits and complex electrical issues using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, Meggers, clamp meters, and circuit tracers.
- Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E safety standards, and company policies.
- Apply OSHA and NFPA 70E safety practices on every job, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe work procedures.
- Collaborate with other trades and project team members to complete construction, installation, and maintenance projects efficiently and on schedule.
- Lead projects or portions of projects as needed, providing direction in the field and ensuring quality workmanship and safe practices.
- Mentor apprentices and less experienced electricians by providing on-the-job training, guidance, and feedback.
- Document work performed, including materials used and test results, and communicate progress or issues to supervisors or project leads.
- Support industrial automation and control system tasks where applicable, including assisting with PLC-related troubleshooting and control wiring.
- Adapt to fast-paced commercial and industrial environments and respond effectively to changing priorities and complex electrical challenges.
Essential Skills
- Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent documented electrical experience, as required by state or local regulations.
- Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on commercial and/or industrial electrical experience.
- Strong knowledge of 3-phase electrical systems, including 120/208V and 277/480V power distribution.
- Proven ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment such as motors, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), switch gear, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, single-line diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Thorough understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA regulations, and NFPA 70E safety standards.
- Experience using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment, including multimeters, Meggers, clamp meters, and circuit tracers.
- Ability to bend and install conduit systems, including running conduit and performing conduit bending for various applications.
- Ability to pull feeders, terminate conductors, and complete electrical installations with minimal supervision.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for circuits, control systems, and complex electrical problems in commercial and industrial settings.
- Solid understanding of electrical construction practices, including wiring, panel wiring, and installation techniques.
- Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to all applicable electrical and safety codes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master Electrician license or additional electrical certifications.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting, industrial automation, and control systems.
- Knowledge of medium-voltage electrical distribution systems.
- OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or Arc Flash certification.
- Experience leading crews, mentoring apprentices, or serving in a foreman capacity.
- Experience working in manufacturing facilities, food processing plants, distribution centers, or heavy industrial environments.
- Familiarity with building automation systems, instrumentation, and process controls.
- Experience with industrial and commercial construction projects, including installation, wiring, and commissioning.
