About New Moms

At New Moms, we’re on a mission to empower young moms and their families to thrive and build brighter futures. Through innovative housing, job training, and family support programs, we serve hundreds of families each year across Chicagoland.

Position Summary

The Float Coach is a full‑time, in‑person role that provides temporary coverage when positions are vacant or when additional support is needed across direct service programs. This highly dynamic position is cross‑trained in multiple program models and adapts quickly to different teams, supervisors, and participant needs. The Float Coach supports participants using the New Moms Coaching approach while maintaining program expectations for the department they are assigned to at any given time.

This role has a primary supervisor but works closely with task supervisors depending on the assignment.

Location

Varies based on coverage assignment:
Our offices are located in Oak Park, and the Austin and East Garfield Park neighborhoods of Chicago.

Schedule

Full‑time, 40 hours/week

What a Day Might Look Like
  • Covering a temporary caseload and conducting home‑ or office‑based coaching visits
  • Completing assessments and service plans for participants new to the program
  • Providing emotional support and mental health case management
  • Stepping into a team meeting to align with program expectations and priorities
  • Facilitating a workshop or group session to meet immediate program needs
  • Coordinating referrals and resources for participants across systems
  • Documenting services and updating participant files
  • Transitioning participants back to their primary coach once coverage ends
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide temporary coaching coverage across Family Support, Housing, Job Training, and Parent Education programs
  • Conduct assessments, develop service plans, and provide coaching through home‑ or office‑based visits
  • Deliver mental health case management, crisis prevention, and intervention as needed
  • Collaborate with internal teams and community partners to support participant stability and goal achievement
  • Use digital coaching tools and case management systems to maintain engagement and documentation
  • Facilitate workshops or group coaching sessions based on agency needs
  • Coordinate exit planning, referrals, and transitions back to primary coaches
  • Participate in cross‑training and professional development across program areas

Qualifications

Education (one of the following required):

  • Bachelor’s in social work, psychology, counseling, or similar field
  • OR Bachelor’s in other field + 2 years clinical/human service experience
  • OR High school diploma + 5 years clinical or human service experience

Experience:

  • Experience using case management software preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High adaptability and comfort working across different program models
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft applications

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends depending on the needs of the program
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable car, and insurance required
  • Must complete and maintain Parents as Teachers certification (provided on the job)
Work Environment

Must be able to sit/stand for up to 8 hours, walk stairs, and lift up to 30–40 lbs (or perform with reasonable accommodation). Work environments may vary.
