Dean of Academics

Overview: The primary responsibility of the Dean of Academics is the overall academic excellence of the school. The Dean of Academics will (1) continue to implement the academic plan, (2) provide oversight to the curriculum, and (3) ensure that the academic achievement of students meets or exceeds national and state content and performance standards.

The Dean of Academics will work under the supervision of the Head of School while collaborating with other administrative members, especially division principals. The Dean of Academics will report to the Head of School.

• Establish and promote high standards and expectations for the academic performance of all students.
• Coordinate K-12 scope and sequence.
• Facilitate department meetings with teachers to design and implement assessments that align with the academic plan and state and national standards.
• Oversee the implementation of standardized tests, along with the PSAT and CLT.
• Oversee, as needed, the accreditation process.
• Oversee textbook and curriculum textbook review and selection.
• Gather and distribute research on current educational/curricular/instructional strategies.
• Provide appropriate communication to the GCA administrative team regarding curricular issues.
• Research and write, when appropriate, curricular articles for school publications.
• Evaluate syllabi and lesson plans.
• Work in conjunction with division principals in observing classroom teachers and evaluating implementation of standards-based assessments and curricular integration.
• Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications as assigned by the Head of School.
• Work within a sound and accurate understanding of all GCA policies and procedures.
