Join our team as an Automation Controls Engineer! This is a full‑time role based out of our Maumee, OH office. The position is salaried and includes eligibility for overtime pay. Automation Controls Engineers at Matrix Technologies work on a variety of automation projects in multiple industries, ultimately solving client problems through the design, programming, testing, and commissioning of industrial control systems.
Intermediate Level Control & Automation Engineers work on projects in a team environment under the direction and mentorship of a more senior level Controls Engineer but are expected to already possess the skills and experience to work autonomously once given assigned tasks. Project work involves a variety of clients in multiple industries using various control platforms. Control & Automation Engineers interface with both external clients as well as other internal engineering disciplines within the Matrix organization to gather field data, prepare functional specifications, write PLC code, develop HMI / SCADA graphics, perform client acceptance testing, and start‑up new automation systems.
- Assist the project team with the software development process associated with both existing and new PLC‑based control systems, including design of digital and analog control strategies, interfaces to field instrumentation, new Operator graphic screens, interfaces to other control systems, and interfaces to external computing platforms.
- Assist senior engineers with preparing the project functional specification, project test specifications, developing PLC code, developing HMI graphics, executing a software Factory Acceptance Test, and performing on‑site commissioning and start‑up.
- Assist with control system check‑out, commissioning, and on‑site start‑up.
- Work on control system upgrades, expansions, and/or new control system deployments.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Science Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). Consideration will be given to other engineering degrees based on degree, coursework, and previous co‑op or other job experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience contributing to control system programming/integration or supporting plant control system operations preferred.
- Ability to efficiently multitask between multiple projects.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Preference for candidates with previous exposure to Allen‑Bradley, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, or Siemens PLC‑based control systems.
- Experience and/or understanding of Industrial Controls wiring preferred.
- Ability to travel by air and by car with estimated travel of 25% consisting of both day and overnight travel.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk, and hear.
- Frequently must lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
