Process Engineer - Metals Manufacturing

Responsibilities
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts on the floor, focusing on optimizing cell layouts, improving tooling, and conducting production trials.
  • Manage multiple capital equipment projects simultaneously from conception to completion, ensuring all project timelines and milestones are met, including cost justifications, ROI analyses, and budget proposals for new equipment procurement.
  • Conduct thorough vendor research, lead the selection process, and manage ongoing vendor relationships to ensure quality, compliance, and timely delivery.
  • Maintain an active, visible presence on the production floor, partnering daily with operations to support existing business, troubleshoot issues, and meet production goals.
  • Utilize Solid Works to design and optimize manufacturing cell layouts, as well as custom fixtures, gauges, and carts.
  • Partner closely with management, engineering, sales, and operations staff to evaluate manufacturing capabilities, address tooling requirements, and streamline production.
  • Manage the engineering change system efficiently to ensure process updates support active production while meeting strict customer requirements.
  • Develop and execute strategies to eliminate waste, find cost savings, and boost productivity across all manufacturing processes.
  • Foster and lead cross‑functional teams to bridge the gap between the operations and engineering departments, improving overall morale and process effectiveness.
  • Plan, develop, and launch prototypes, while actively managing process and product development trials.
  • Participate in new program launches to ensure timely execution that meets production requirements, productivity goals, customer timelines, and financial targets.
  • Collaborate on brainstorming sessions to develop new product concepts and value‑engineered improvements.
  • Deliver and participate in live customer demonstrations of new products and processes.
  • Assist in developing engineering standards while tracking and reporting key performance measurables to the management team.
  • Other duties as delegated by management.

The role requires teamwork, communication skills with internal and external departments, problem‑solving ability, initiative and continuous improvement activities, and spending up to 50% of time on the production floor.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree; ideally in a mechanical or technical field.
  • At least 3-5 years of similar process or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience working in metals environments such as stamping, machining, fabrication, etc.
  • Strong continuous improvement background with proven examples of scrap reductions, efficiency improvements, etc.
  • Capital equipment projects, including timeline management.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T.
  • 3D modeling software skills.
  • General understanding of the APQP process, including FMEA and Production Part Approval.
  • Microsoft Office skills, including strong MS Excel proficiency.
  • Preferred Skills (Not required)
    • Solid Works.
    • Automation.
    • Automotive supplier experience.
    • Budget management.
    • Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
    • Mechanical part design.
