Street Operator II is responsible for carrying out various duties involving manual labor and the operation of heavy equipment with care, and attention to safety and efficiency. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to: street sweepers, sanitation trucks, knuckle booms, dump trucks, as well as small driven equipment, hand tools and other equipment as directed by the supervisor. A COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE IS REQUIRED.
ESSENTIALJOB DUTIES
- 1. Collect and haul garbage, yard waste, and recycling dumpsters, and drive the sanitation truck when needed. (daily)
- 2. Operate and maintain machinery and equipment (including backhoes, dozers, graders, mowing machines, weed eaters, knuckle boom, dump trucks, jack hammers, chain saws, post-hole diggers, and hand tools) as needed. (daily)
- 3. Accurately prepare and submit work logs and pre-trip inspections on vehicles. (daily)
- 4. Operate tandem axle trucks and graders during snow plowing and ice removal operations. (irregularly)
- 5. Collect garbage on right-of-ways, parks, common areas, and other areas as assigned. (irregularly)
- 6. Perform ground maintenance work, using weed eaters and edging equipment. (irregularly)
- 7. Assist in street construction by breaking pavement, pouring and shoveling asphalt and concrete. (irregularly)
- 8. Assist with the training of Operator I. (irregularly)
- 9. Supervise crews as needed. (daily)
- 10. Assist in clearing drainage ditches within the City's right-of-way, using heavy equipment such as track-hoes, backhoes, bobcats, or mini excavators. (irregularly)
- 11. Assist with installation and/or repair of City walking paths. (irregularly)
- 12. Assist with installation and/or repair of City drainage pipes and water and sewer lines. (irregularly)
- 13. Assist with removal of large trees within the City's right-of-way with the use of heavy equipment. (irregularly)
- 14. Assist with installation of proper erosion control on City-owned drainage ditches. (irregularly)
- 15. Assist in clearing of City property using equipment such as chainsaws or hand tools. (irregularly)
- 16. Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The education and experience listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities generally necessary to fulfill this requirement.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- Successful completion of high school or general education degree (GED)
- Specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc.
- 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training
or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
