Speech Therapist
The Speech Therapist position assesses and treats speech, language, and swallowing disorders in order to help individuals enhance their ability to communicate and swallow safely. The Speech Therapist will perform direct patient care, assessing and treating speech, language, and swallowing disorders. Completion of patient documentation is required, including initial evaluations, plans of care, progress reports, and discharge reports. The Speech Therapist will contact insurance companies regarding benefits.
Preparation for evaluation and treatment sessions is necessary. Education will be provided to staff, including nurses, physicians, dietitians, and food service workers, regarding results and recommendations following evaluations. Guidance will be provided based on the most up-to-date research. The Speech Therapist will create in-service presentations and educational opportunities for staff. Collaboration with healthcare providers is essential in order to provide patient-centered treatment.
Cleaning treatment rooms following sessions is required. Reminder calls to patients will be made as necessary. Aiding patients and families in navigating the hospital will be part of the job duties. Other duties may be requested as needed.
